Shiraz is a name familiar to wine lovers, as the grape originated here, even though modern Shiraz wines are now mainly produced elsewhere. Although the vineyards are long gone, the city is rich in attractions. Today’s city tour starts at the Nasir Al Mulk Mosque, also called the Pink Mosque, completed in 1888. You’ll then visit the Vakil Complex with its mosque, historic baths, and bustling bazaar. Sightseeing continues with the Karimkhan Citadel, the tranquil Eram Garden, and the Tomb of Hafez. This morning you’ll depart for the famed city of Isfahan, with several remarkable stops along the route. The first is Persepolis, founded in 518 BC as the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built on a massive terrace, its ruins still convey the former grandeur of Persian civilisation. You’ll then visit Naghsh-e Rostam, an ancient necropolis famous for its rock-carved reliefs. There’s time to explore the Qeysarieh Bazaar, renowned for its carpets and kilims. Your journey continues to Kashan today, stopping en route at the village of Abyaneh. Often called the “red village” due to its distinctive red earth and buildings, Abyaneh’s winding alleys stretch up the foothills of the Karkas Mountains. From a distance it’s highly picturesque, and closer inspection reveals its unique clay architecture and living traditions. In Kashan, you’ll visit the Boroujerdi House, a beautifully preserved 19th-century residence now serving as a museum.
